"Join The Philosopher's Editorial Collective"

White house on hill

The Philosopher is seeking applications from individuals interested in joining our editorial collective, to contribute to the management of The Philosopher. Alongside taking on a share of core administrative tasks necessary for the day-to-day running of The Philosopher, this role can also involve, depending on individual interests and experience:

  • Commissioning content, editing and production of our print journal;

  • Programming content, hosting and managing online events;

  • Programming, facilitating and supporting our groups, classes and workshops;

  • Developing new initiatives and activities.

The Philosopher is volunteer-run, relying on donations and journal sales to support basic running costs, so membership of the editorial collective is not paid.

We are seeking to recruit two new managing editors to join our team. No formal academic qualifications or professional experience are essential for these roles, though some demonstrable background with philosophy and an interest in public philosophy is required.

To apply to join, please send a document with:

(a) a brief biographical statement, outlining your philosophical background and interests as well as any relevant experience, projects or publications (max 300 words);

(b) a statement setting out your interest in public philosophy, any past experience with philosophy outside of formal academia, and any new ideas or particular strands of The Philosopher's work you would particularly like to contribute to.

Applications should be sent to thephilosopher1923@gmail.com with the subject line "Editorial Collective application" by January 15th.

We look forward to hearing from you! The Philosopher Team
