Groups and Classes policy

1. About The Policy

1.1 The Philosopher is the official journal of the Philosophical Society of England (PSE), a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). Registered UK Charity No. 1205921. We can be contacted at: thephilosopher1923@gmail.com

1.2 By booking to attend an online group or class organised by The Philosopher, you are agreeing to this policy.

2. Payment and Refunds

2.1 Booking and payment for online groups and classes will be done via Ticket Tailor.

2.2 We offer a limited number of free spaces for each group or class we run for those who cannot afford to pay.  If you wish to be considered for one of these spaces, please email: thephilosopher1923@gmail.com. Free spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

2.3 Patreon members, regular donors, and print subscribers will be eligible for advance booking and will be able to book groups and classes at a reduced rate.

2.4 Each group and class will be capped at a certain number, which will vary between groups. Beyond this number, we will open and maintain a waiting list.

2.5 If you have made a booking and can no longer attend, please contact us as soon as possible so the place can be offered to participants on the waiting list.

2.6 Refunds can only be issued if we receive a cancellation request via email at least 48 hours before the first session of a group or class is due to start.  Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds once a course is underway.

2.7 Refunds will be processed via Ticket Tailor and the amount will be reimbursed to the account through which you made the original booking.

3. Code of Good Practice

3.1 In our groups and classes, we aim to provide a positive environment in which we can have interesting, lively, and constructive discussions in a spirit of kindness, mutual respect, and inclusivity.

3.2 We reserve the right to remove a person from a group or class if their conduct is considered unacceptable or not in keeping with our ethos outlined in 3.1 (in The Philosopher’s reasonable opinion).

3.3 We aim to make our groups and classes as accessible as possible.  Participants are encouraged to discuss any specific access needs with the Facilitator and/or the Groups and Classes Coordinator by emailing thephilosopher1923@gmail.com, preferably in advance of the first session.

3.4 The views of invited group/class leaders are not necessarily those of The Philosopher.

3.5 In the event of any difficulty that cannot be resolved with the Facilitator, please get in touch with The Philosopher’s Managing Editor at thephilosopher1923@gmail.com

4. Use of Information

4.1 Bookings for our online groups or classes are processed via Ticket Tailor.  During booking, you will be asked to provide the following information: your name, email address, and the country in which you are based.

4.2 We will use this information to contact you about future activities (including, but not limited to, events, groups, classes, and publications) organised by The Philosopher.  If at any point you wish to be removed from our mailing list, please contact us at: thephilosopher1923@gmail.com

This policy is effective from September 2024.
